The '''Mantle of Arthur''' is a device that transports people into a parallel dimension.

==Overview==
The device shifts a person into a parallel dimension where they cannot interact with things in the physical world, except for the keys on the device. The device produces trace amounts of [[Lepton]] radiation when activated. When out of phase, a [[Hologram|holographic]] display appears above the device. {{Cite|SG1|Arthur's Mantle}} The device maintains a connection with every molecule that it shifts. The field range of the device can be extended to hide larger objects or areas. There is a small slot at the back where a power crystal can be inserted. {{Cite|SG1|Line in the Sand}}

==History==
[[Moros|Merlin]] invented the device to hide his research on a [[Sangraal|weapon]] from the [[Others]]. It ended up in the [[Glastonbury Cavern]] where it was found by [[SG-1]]. [[Doctor|Dr.]] [[Bill Lee]] examined the device for six months before [[Samantha Carter]] was able to activated it and send her and [[Cameron Mitchell]] were shifted out of phase. Lee managed to activate it again and sent [[Daniel Jackson]] out of phase as well where he translated Merlin's research. Lee's attempts to get them back caused a power drain but luckily Jackson deciphered enough to send them all back. {{Cite|SG1|Arthur's Mantle}}

Carter used the device to hide larger objects and was then tasked with using the device to hide a village on [[P9C-882]] to protect it from [[Ori]] forces. The device eventually failed when a power fluctuation occured and Ori soldiers soon arrived. [[Cameron Mitchell]], on Carter's direction, bypassed some damaged [[Naquadah generator]]s to bring the device online and hide them and the building they were in. With an [[Ori Warship]] going to fire on the village from orbit, Carter told Mitchell to use a power crystal from an [[Ori Staff weapon]] to help power the device and hide the entire village to save it. {{Cite|SG1|Line in the Sand}}

Carter was experimenting with the device while being contained in a shield when a [[Matter bridge]] connected and pulled her through to an [[Alternate Reality]]. Carter used the device to hide this alternate Earth from five [[Ori Warship]]s that came to attack. The device found in that reality was brought out of storage to be studied and [[Meredith Rodney McKay#Alternate Realities|Meredith Rodney McKay]] was tasked with making it work to hide the planet again.
