Template:Technology The SGC Dialing computer is a computer system designed to dial the Stargate.

Overview

The computer produces a name for the planets it locates based on a binary code used for extrapolation, such as P3R-233. Template:Cite The dialing computer is isolated from the rest of the base mainframe so it cannot be operated except in certain locations such as the control room. Template:Cite

History

Samantha Carter updated the dialing computer using the information obtained from the Abydos Cartouche room so the Stargate on Earth could connect to other addresses. The updated system was able to correct two or three destinations every month. Template:Cite When Jack O'Neill had the Ancient Repository of Knowledge uploaded into his mind, he added a number of new addresses to the dialing computer and devised a new formula for calculating the distance between planetary bodies.
