Time dilation
Time dilation is the difference in the elapsed time as measured by two clocks.
Overview

History
The Lanteans established a time dilation field, called The Sanctuary, on a planet to allow those inside to reach ascension without the Wraith attacking them. Teer's people found the field and moved inside to help them reach ascension. Template:Cite Ganos Lal created a time dilation field on Osric's planet with a path of normal time winding through it as one of the tests for those that came looking for the Sangraal. Template:Cite Samantha Carter initially assumed that the Virtual reality chairs were some sort of time dilation machines but later realized their were in fact in a virtual reality. Template:Cite SG-10 experienced time dilation when a black hole formed near P3W-451, racing to the Stargate to escape but became trapped. When Stargate Command dialed into P3W-451, the time dilation effects began to affect the base and after 10 minutes, over four hours had passed on the surface. The Asgard built a time dilation device to trap the Replicators on Hala. The Replicators stopped the device and accelerated time, allowing them to consume the planets resources. SG-1 activated the device and trapped the Replicators. Template:Cite John Sheppard entered the Sanctuary and was inside for only a few hours but six months passed for him. Template:Cite Communication through a Stargate near a black hole resulted in slower speech being transmitted. Alternate Timelines
- In an alternate timeline, SG-1 and Hank Landry were trapped in a Time dilation field on the Odyssey for 50 years. Carter eventually figured out how to reverse time in the field and Teal'c remained older to ensure that they would not end up in the field. Template:Cite
